RETREATS
The center in Nagodzice has five retreat cottages. The cottages are intended only for students practicing Diamond Way Buddhism of the Karma Kagyu Lineage, under the spiritual guidance of Lama Ole Nydahl and the 17th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje.
During meditation retreats we devote time primarily to meditative practice, which allows us to deepen its results and creates more distance in the mind. Retreats are intended for people who are already practicing Ngondro or who have completed this practice.
Open Retreats
In this type of retreat we meditate alone or with someone close to us. It is worthwhile to plan a daily meditation practice and consistently follow the previously established plan. During an open retreat we can communicate and spend time with other people, and we can also help with the center's work.
Closed Retreats
During this type of retreat we meditate alone or with someone close and do not contact other people. In our lineage, four meditation sessions are performed daily. We focus on one main meditation and try to read passages from the Buddha's teachings between sessions to direct the mind toward the right view.
Before the retreat we recommend reading:
- Retreats are a matter of maturity, Lama Ole Nydahl (Diamond Way, no. 28)
- Retreats — concentrating on working with the mind, Lama Ole Nydahl, Hannah Nydahl (Diamond Way, no. 41)
Practical Information
Before the retreat, a meditation schedule must be established and consistently followed. It is worth considering whether the retreat will be open or closed, and informing the center's residents accordingly.
If the planned retreat is longer than 3 days, a letter should be written to Lama Ole and the teacher consulted regarding the program and length of the retreat.
The retreat cottages are equipped with a kitchen, so it is possible to cook your own meals in them.

Buddhist meditation is a method by which the knowledge and understanding we have acquired transforms into practical experience…
— Lama Ole Nydahl
There is nothing mystical about meditation, you simply start by learning not to follow everything that appears in your head.
